Sustainability is in our DNA
As the world’s largest damage restoration company, we aim not only to make buildings or machinery usable again after a loss, but also to help preserve the foundations of life for future generations. Our business model inherently supports this ambition: restoration is almost always more resource-efficient than replacement or new construction. But we do not rely on this advantage alone. Instead, our goal is to restore damage in a way that minimizes additional impact on the environment wherever possible.
Our path to climate neutrality
The EU Green Deal and the requirements of the CSRD set clear parameters for a climate-neutral and transparent economy. BELFOR aligns its climate targets consistently with these frameworks and is systematically advancing the reduction of its own emissions – in the interest of our customers, employees and partners.
Taking responsibility: our path to Net Zero
With its Carbon Reduction Plan, BELFOR Europe commits to the Paris Agreement and the goals of the European Green Deal. Our objective is clear: Net Zero by 2050 – in Germany already by 2045.

Creating transparency: our 2024 baseline
By the end of 2025, we completed the first full assessment of our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions for 2024. This forms the baseline for our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF).
The Scope 1 & 2 footprint amounts to 23.447,91 t CO₂e.
Scope 1 emissions mainly result from fuel consumption in our vehicle fleet as well as heating at our sites. Scope 2 emissions arise from purchased electricity.
Understanding the full picture: Scope 3 completes the view
We have now also completed the assessment of our Scope 3 emissions. The total footprint for 2024 (Scope 1, 2 & 3) amounts to 189.556,98 t CO₂e (March 2026)
Scope 3 represents the largest share Anteil (88% / 166.109,08 t CO₂e), with Category 3.1 (purchased goods and services) as the main driver. A significant portion of our emissions is therefore linked to materials, services and external support required for our operations.
Moving forward: our next steps
Based on this, we will further refine our measures. We plan to continue reducing our direct emissions – particularly by further developing our vehicle fleet and optimizing our energy use. At the same time, we aim to gradually integrate climate considerations more strongly into our procurement processes and collaboration with partners.
For Scope 1 and 2, we target a reduction of at least 95% by 2050 (Germany: 2045). Remaining emissions will be neutralized through high-quality carbon removals.
Sustainability as a broader responsibility
For BELFOR, sustainability is multi-dimensional. Alongside climate protection and resource efficiency, we also act with economic responsibility, secure jobs for the long term and commit to full legal compliance in all markets in which we operate.

Climate action in practice
In our operations, we reduce the environmental and climate impacts of our work – for example by using energy-efficient equipment and environmentally compatible products and technologies in damage restoration. Digital solutions also help us conserve resources and make processes even more efficient.
Water treatment
With BELFOR’s water treatment process, contaminated water from fire damage is captured directly on-site, treated, and reused multiple times. This significantly reduces the need for fresh water. A large proportion of the treated water can then be safely discharged into the sewer system, returning it to the natural water cycle. This reduces transport distances, energy-intensive incineration, and CO₂ emissions.

CO₂ calculator
The BELFOR CO₂ Calculator makes the climate benefit of repairing versus replacing instantly visible. Based on real damage cases and recognized literature values according to DIN EN ISO 14040 ff., the global warming potential (GWP) of both options is calculated – a clear, measurable contribution to emission reduction.

360° Damage Scan
The BELFOR 360° Damage Scan creates a virtual twin of the damage in just minutes – in high-resolution 4K quality, fully navigable and available anytime. Precise floor plans, automatic media output, and contactless assessment eliminate unnecessary trips, saving emissions. Documentation and progress tracking become faster, easier, and more resource-efficient.

DRYsmart®
With BELFOR DRYsmart®, water damage drying becomes digital, energy-efficient, and climate-friendly. Whether cavity, screed insulation, or room drying – the system uses up to 35% less energy than conventional methods, significantly reducing energy costs* and CO₂ footprint. Over 1,000 successful projects demonstrate the technology’s practical value.

SRF process
The SRF process is a water-free – and therefore particularly resource-saving – eco-friendly alternative to chemical cleaning of walls, ceilings, and wooden surfaces. It gently removes soot and other heavy contamination without leaving residues. SRF binds pollutants, protects materials from penetration by contaminants, and generates only minimal waste – maximizing material and environmental protection while saving significant amounts of water.

Smart Mobility
With Smart Mobility, BELFOR optimizes its operational logistics through an AI-powered system. This selects the most eco-friendly route for each job, reducing mileage, saving fuel, and lowering emissions – enabling more sustainable and efficient restoration operations.
